Today entrepreneurs face many challenges. It’s easy to get caught in the day to day and miss the bigger picture. Today leaders need to balence the small details with the goals of the organization.
I was trying to come up with a strong metaphor for today’s entrepreneurs. A friend suggested I might find the metaphor in the hawk. The more I learned about these majetic birds of prey the more it became clear the hawk could provide a guide for our future leadership.
Here are the qualities both entrepreneurs and hawks need to have to survive in today’s rapidly changing world. Sometimes it’s hard to see the hawk from the trees. Here are the qualities I develop in the leaders I work with.
Vision: Hawks are known for their exceptional vision, which symbolizes clarity of purpose and foresight in a coaching context. Just like a coach helps clients gain a clearer perspective and future direction, a hawk’s sharp vision can represent the ability to see possibilities and opportunities others may not.
Focus: Hawks maintain an intense focus on their goals, particularly when hunting. This mirrors how a coach helps clients focus on their goals and eliminate distractions, honing in on what really matters for success.
Elevation: Hawks soar high, providing a broad perspective from above. Similarly, a coach helps clients rise above their current circumstances, enabling them to see the bigger picture and evaluate situations from new vantage points.
Precision: Hawks are precise when they swoop down to catch prey, paralleling how a coach supports clients in taking precise, calculated actions toward achieving their goals.
Adaptability: Hawks adapt to different environments and circumstances. A good coach helps clients develop resilience and adaptability, guiding them through challenges and changes in their personal or professional lives.
Strength and Grace: Hawks combine strength with grace, which can represent the balance that a coach aims to foster in a client—strength in decision-making and grace in navigating challenges.
