What are you thankful for?

It’s almost Thanksgiving and I’m thankful for many things. One of my favorite quotes by Meister Eckhart is, “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” It’s short, concise, and to the point. It certainly sums up my feelings at this time.

When I look back over my life, I think of all the people who have given me so much. It’s not just that they’ve given me things, they’ve given of themselves. It’s the time they’ve invested in me. It’s the teachers, friends, and loved ones who have shared their most valuable asset, time, with me. For many, I’m certain they didn’t know how their investment would pay off. It was the smile or laugh on a challenging day in hospice. It was the gift of a special book or philosophy that you might have spent a life time developing and understanding, and you shared it with me in a moment. I have been blessed all of my life to experience many different opportunities and people. They all have left an indelible mark on me. Thank You

As I look out towards my future, I have more questions than answers in why and how I do this. I’m looking for clues on how I can make the largest contribution to the world moving forward. Small ideas have little power to move my soul. Why does this matter today? I’ve spent the past several weeks reconnecting with many of the people and things that meant so much to me in my life. It was a transformational journey. I’m in awe of how the pieces have all fit together to create a life. They reminded me of the special mission we all have to accomplish while we are here.

I’ve been blessed to work with many influential people and leaders around the world. I always explore what motivates them to do what they do. They do it because they were poorly treated or because they were unconditionally loved by someone. Many have a special cause that calls them to take action. They have large dreams and quiet moments. People can do amazing things for love of their fellow man. They create their own opportunities to reach their true potential; they bring it out in us and won’t settle for failure. They use their gifts, strengths, and life experiences to find their own way to contribute to the bigger picture.

They are willing to invest in others and they are willing to wait for the results. Many times it happens in an instant. It’s a spark that changes the way we see ourselves. It’s a chance meeting that doesn’t make sense at the time but, over time, it grows in us to help us achieve and understand our greatest potential.

I’m thankful for all the people who shared without wanting anything in return. I’m thankful for all the people who provided me with the opportunity to grow and love without conditions. I’m thankful for all the friends and family who have been here throughout the years to provide me with the support and love I need to reach my own potential. I’m thankful for all the individuals who provided the environment and tools to allow me to help change my life forever. I’m thankful for you who allowed me to touch your lives. Thank You.
